Building a foolproof wardrobe is easy, all you need to do is to remember the right ratios. No, its not a math's class its fashion…
A perfect wardrobe should be 60% Investment pieces 20% Basics and 20% Trend. Stylists use this rule when shopping for clients.
Use this simple rule when shopping. Coco Chanel once said "buy less, spend more".
Think of those few items you have in your wardrobe that have been with you for years. Forever faithful they help you through those "what to wear days…" you paid more for them because you know they will last forever. These make up your investment wardrobe.
Choose your best Investment pieces from small designers and specialised retailers such as Herringbone, Cue and Farage who focus on detail and are experts in their field.
Look for quality fabrics made only from natural fibres in base colours such as black, beige, navy and chocolate. They are designed to match any Basic or Trend piece you bring to your wardrobe. You hear of celebrities sometimes wearing clothing from chain stores and matching with designer labels, this is how they do it and still look great.
Hang your investment pieces in a separate section of your wardrobe on good quality hangers. Find a good drycleaner and spend the money. They will often give you a discount if you use them often. Your clothes will last forever – particularly shirts.
Next month look for hints on shopping for Basics and Trends.
There is no excuse for poor quality, pilling knitwear. Don't make the mistake of buying cheap jumpers made from unnatural fibres that you can only wear once. Instead invest in 100% wool to last. Most chain retailers sell knitwear for around $69 made from polyester or viscose. These will pill after one wear and never retain their shape. Why buy this when you can pay $200 for a pure wool jumper that will last you many years offering breathability and long lasting shape.
There is nothing worse than hair that only lasts in its style for two days. A simple trick that hair stylists use is to tease hair and twist into a chic French Roll.
Grab a thin tooth comb and pull hair back from the crown. Tease or backcomb to use the correct term, small sections until your hair is completely standing up on your head. Spray with a little hairspray and with a light hand comb over the top layer to smooth hair. With hands pull hair into a low ponytail and proceed to twist into a roll making sure the ends are tucked under the hair. Fasten with bobby pins and you are left with a style that will stay all day.
Try a thin hair band to modernise the style. Tortoiseshell is the best or you could try the new range of sequin hair bands at Mimco. Wear close to the crown with lots of height in your hair for style.
After an exhaustive search to find a laptop bag that was not made of boring black vinyl we stumbled across La Bella Corp, who design and manufacture beautiful briefcases and laptop bags crafted with the highest attention to detail using only the finest quality leather.
They are offering a fantastic discount to Melanie Moss customers this month on some amazing designs that will ensure you stand out from the crowd. We purchased the two-tone retro style and are currently lusting over the cream and chocolate pieces that are perfect to hold the laptop during the week and transfer to a gorgeous overnighter for a weekend in the country.
This funky bag was $150 but is selling to you for the bargain price of $99.

Okay, so it's not strictly entertainment but seeing as Easter is just around the corner we thought we would tell you all about the online store Definitely Chocolate and give one of you the chance to win an at home tasting experience.
Based in Melbourne, Definitely Chocolate's European-trained chocolatiers hand-craft high-quality chocolates using both blended and Single Origin Chocolate imported from Belgium. Single Origin Chocolate, crafted from cocoa beans sourced from single, unique regions of the world, is the cocoa equivalent of a single malt whisky or a grand cru wine. Single Origin Chocolate allows us the pleasure of taste and aroma specific to cocoa grown in different regions under different conditions of rainfall, heat and humidity.
This refined chocolate has up to 75% cocoa content, compared with as little as 20% in cheap products. Again, only the classic ingredients are used and the chocolate is completely free of non-cocoa fats, preservatives or other additives.
At the Definitely Chocolate website (
www.definitelychocolate.com.au) chocolate lovers can survey images and descriptions of a full range of chocolates and then make on-line selections to progressively fill up their own 26- or 40- piece box.
Definitely Chocolate can prepare and despatch a beautifully-presented gift box, delivered with a hand-written card to the purchaser - or directly to the intended recipient of the gift.
