Accessories – Resin & beads

Use resin and large wooden beads to update an outfit. These look particularly smart with a structured collar on a career shirt. Wear the shirt open to the lowest point of the beads no lower than just above the beginning of your cleavage.

Perfect styles can be found at Dinosaur Designs in Paddington but for a cheaper option try Bondi Markets.

Wise Investing

When buying shoes and bags always spend as much as you can afford. Rather than buying into accessories trends, purchase pieces you can use over and over for years thus making the most of your investment.

Always purchase leather accessories. Chain stores are now doing some fantastic ranges at great prices. Check out Country Road, Oroton & Witchery.

You should have one of the following in your bag collection:

Lunch Bags

Now ladies the issue of the lunch bag must be resolved. For years I have observed women carrying all manner of interesting bags to hold their shoes on the way to work.

I highly recommend this practice as it takes the wear and tear out of your shoes. Pop a pair of thongs on in the morning and take them off before you get to work.

We all love to save the bags from our designer shopping and use those until they are falling apart. I have noticed an increase in the green Coles bags over the last few months but its time we all learn that our outfit doesn’t stop at our clothing. When you are walking down the street you may be wearing an incredible suit, divine Italian shoes and carrying a Gucci bag. But if you also have on your person a green Coles bag you will be seen as “the bag lady” and not in an Imelda Marcos kind of way.

For those days when you need to carry a little extra with you, grab a plain fabric tote to hide away your thongs until its time to leave work.

Sexy Secretary

A smart pencil skirt goes from boring basic to sexy secretary when teamed with a pair of fishnet stockings. Discreet but never dutiful, they add a little bit of fun to the boardroom.

The Flatting Issue

Pointy or round toe flat shoes can save aching feet and back when matched with wide-leg, flat front pants. This look works well for short and tall people. For those of us who aren’t tall or pencil thin a flared A-line skirt, cute knit and flats are a great look for the office.

Best Basics

A basic black boat-neck, ribbed knit with ¾ sleeves is an excellent way of slimming down. Pair this with a thin leather belt in a contrasting colour to create one of the most popular looks of the moment.

After Work Drinks

Purchase make up when the department store is on sale or offering a gift with purchase. This way you can afford to buy two of the same product.

Keep one set at home and one at work. That way you aren’t having packages spill or break inside your purse.

Add to this package some refresher towels, toothpaste and toothbrush and you will always be ready when that gorgeous partner asks you for to head out for a drink after work.

Pony tails

A black or navy velvet ribbon tied around your sleek ponytail hides an unsightly elastic that rarely matches your outfit. You will be perfect from head to toe.

Big Night Out

Never ever sleep in your makeup. Have some facial wipes on hand to get rid of the worst of your make up if you come home after a late night. Your skin needs to breathe. Give it a good 10 hours every day without makeup on and try to wear as little as possible on the weekend. A splash a blush, mascara & lip gloss should be enough for Sunday lunch.

Panda Eyes

Replace your mascara every 2 months. This keeps your eyelashes in top condition. We suggest Model Co Lashscara. Its the best product we’ve tried in years. Never smudges, and makes your eye twice the size!

Makeup In Store Service

M.A.C offers an instore make-up service. Perfect for an upcoming wedding, you simply book for the day of the event, go into store and have your makeup done professionally for a $60 redeemable fee on any product.

We suggest a M.A.C PRO LONGWEAR LIPCOLOUR a longwearing lip colour that applies in two quick steps.

Stroke on the special formulated colour base. Flip the stick, and apply the clear gloss. Soft and comfortable on…Kiss, drink, eat. Smudge, run, transfer and feather-proof.

Compact Protection

When possible purchase your face products in a compact form. This makes them easier to use when on the run.

We suggest M.A.C STUDIO FIX. Studio Fix is a powder and foundation in one that combines good coverage with ease of application.

Designed to be used dry, the powder and pigments create a matte, velvety texture. It comes with a sponge and mirror to help with applications in a taxi!

French Miss – Nail care

Nails should always look perfectly polished.

Filed square, close to the nail bed with soft open cuticles.

For day try M.A.C NAIL LACQUER IN GOSSAMER. A light revealing pink / white shade.

For night time or a sexy office look, use M.A.C NAIL LACQUER – SHIRELLE.

Often purchased with M.A.C OVERLACQUER for high shine.

Do It Yourself – Manicure

Your hands are as obvious as any part of your body; you use them to emphasize points in a conversation and to do daily tasks, therefore they should look as well groomed as the rest of you. A good manicure is important to your appearance. Whether or not you use polish, your nails should be conservative, healthy, and always well manicured. To keep your hands attractive give yourself a weekly manicure. Set aside about a half hour and have the following items before you start: emery board, cuticle scissors, nail buffer, a bowl of warm water, polish remover, nail brush, orangewood stick, cotton balls, base coat or nail hardener, nail polish and top coat.

  1. Remove old polish with a cotton ball dampened with nail polish remover. Press the cotton ball firmly to the nail and hold until for a few seconds. Pull the cotton ball down the centre so the polish doesn’t smear on the skin around the nail. Use a clean cotton ball to remove any stubborn polish.
  2. Holding it on a slant, use an emery board to shape nails. Use long strokes in one direction toward the centre of the nail (don’t go back and forth). Don’t file the nails away at the corners because it weakens the nails. Make the curve blunt and don’t file your nails into sharp points.
  3. In a rotating motion use your thumb to massage cuticle cream into the rough skin at the sides and base of the nails.
  4. Soak your nails in warm water for a few minutes to soften the cuticle. Clean your nails thoroughly using a nailbrush.
  5. Wrap the end of the orangewood stick in cotton and apply cuticle remover to the blunt end. Use it to loosen dead skin from around the nails.
  6. Use scissors on hangnails only. Never cut cuticles.
  7. Make sure your nails are free from polish and are clean and dry. If you don’t wear polish, simply buff your nails lightly lengthwise from the base to the tip and you’re finished.
  8. Wipe nails again with polish remover to make sure you get rid of any traces of oil moisture or soap.
  9. For normal nails apply a clear base coat to the entire surface of each nail. If you have problem nails use nail hardener instead.
  10. Apply nail polish using 3 strokes, one from the centre base to the tip and one on each side. Use only enough polish to do one nail at a time. Don’t redo while wet.
  11. When the first coat is completely dry (about ten minutes) apply a second coat.
  12. Finish with a coat of sealer for added protection and allow to dry for at least 30 minutes. Avoid contact with water until nails are completely dry.
